How It All Started
My name is Jen — a Huntsville native, lifelong baker, and proud "mini-me" of my Gram. I have a wonderful husband who lovingly puts up with my dough-covered dishes, and three beautiful kids who are learning that the kitchen is the heart of a home.
My love of cooking for others came straight from my Gram. She retired in the 1990s as the school lunch manager at Huntsville High School, but to me she was always simply the heart of the kitchen. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on her counter helping her cook — bran muffins I loved, beaters I always got to lick, and Christmas cookies decorated with icing and sprinkles, every reindeer with a bright red hot-candy nose.
Before she passed, she gave me her Christmas recipe cards and gave my sister the cookie cutters — so we would always make cookies together. And so we do, each year bringing our kids together just as we once did. The recipe has evolved over time, but some constants remain: vanilla, orange zest, and love.
Cooking and baking aren't just skills in our family. They are a gift. They are a legacy. I bake each loaf, roll, and treat with that same "heart of the kitchen" love.
